Every night i have to eat dinner at home with my family and im trying to start a diet so how can i avoid eating a lot of food? Also how can i avoid eating a lot at a christmas celebration with the entire family (cousins, aunts, uncles, etc…)

Just eat very slowing and take small portions. And I mean very slowly. Trust me! It works, you’ll feel fuller too, just try it! Happy Holidays(:

My family invited me for an dinner this Friday, but as it turns out now I have other plans that are more urgent and can’t be postponed. They invited me because we haven’t had a dinner together at their house in a while, although we’ve had dinner at restaurants together before.

How do I politely get out of the family dinner? Could I ask them to postpone it to another Friday?

"I’m so sorry, but we have plans for Friday night."

No more explanation is needed. You could add:

"But we would be delighted to take you to dinner NEXT Friday!"

Have a polite day.
Etiquette takes over where laws end.

This Saturday, my boyfriend and I decided to cook dinner together for my family. There will be 5 people total eating the meal. What should we cook?? We want something fun, relatively easy, and, obviously, good! Links to recipes would be great, if possible. Thanks! :D

Taco, nacho or potato bar!

My family was having a reunion and we were having dinner. I was sitting next to an aunt taht ive oly talked to once my whole life, she started talking about having an abortion and she started crying about it and it was really boring. I had to fart so i let one out and it smelt horrible and i made someone laugh but my aunt went hysterical and my mom sent be to bed without dinner. Do you think i was rude?

reading the main question cracked me up!!!! totally something my family would do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! glad were not the only ones!!

Sometimes I feel like I should cook dinner for the family when my parents are really busy or stressed but I havent had a lot of time to learn from my dad how to make things. Until I do are there some recipes or a website that has recipes that are somewhat easy but not like mac and cheese simple?? Oh and it would be nice if they had common ingredients since its usually a last minute thing and I cant really run out to the store for anything special. Thanks!! :D

How about pasta salad?
Or, you could do potato salad and cheese/hamburger sliders. Most grocery stores sell sliders preformed and all you have to do is cook them. You can buy slider buns too.
Or Panini sandwiches. These work because they can be adjusted to all tastes. You can serve with salad, or potato salad, or pasta salad, or soup.
Homemade pizza- If making your own crust is too much, you can by balls of dough for pizza crust at your local grocery store.
Chicken Quesadillas
Tacos
Nachos
Meatloaf
Breakfast for dinner
Gnocchi

On Sunday, My husband and I will be attending a "after the wedding family dinner." Am I expected to dress up like the wedding or am I expected to dress casually? Thanks in advance for your answers!
The dinner is at an Italian restaurant the evening after the wedding. This will be the first time I meet this side of my husbands family therefore there is no one to ask.

I would also just wear what you wore to the wedding.
You wouldn’t want to go in something too casual as it is in a restaurant and still a celebration.

I’m graduating college soon and i’m preparing my graduation dinner to accomodate my large family. I live in San Jose, CA and i’m planning on taking a group of 25 to dinner at a restaurant. I’m offering to pay for the bill so it would be great if the restaurant wasn’t pricey. Also don’t want to break my bank account (i am a college student afterall). All you San Jose natives, please give me tips and advice!

thanks :)

Chillis because they don’t charge gratuity and it’s a decent place. I work at olive garden and we charge grat if it’s 8 people or more at 18% so be careful alot of times they don’t tell you till the end

You were no more inappropriate than your aunt was. The dinner table was no place to talk about an abortion and start blubbering either. I am betting the rest of the people were more uncomfortable with her then with what you did. You might have been rude but I find it funny.
